Manchester City have confirmed the exit of versatile forward Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid. The Argentine international arrived at Etihad Stadium from River Plate in 2022 and has since become central to the Citizens’ success stories in the recent past.
While he is the surprise news to nobody, Alvarez has made himself well down the pecking order since Erling Haaland emerged as the undisputed main striker of the club. It was in the middle of a challenge when he made real marks on his time in Manchester, underlining work rate, versatility, and finishing ability.
Manager Pep Guardiola revealed a sense of replacement for Alvarez; however, the plans that the club holds for the summer window are still not very clear.
Alvarez, as a farewell gesture, thanked the Manchester City fans and teammates for their support by taking to Instagram. Bernardo Silva responded in a simple farewell message for his departing teammate and the Portuguese midfielder of the club with a “Juli” and a blue heart emoji.
Plenty will observe how Alvarez manages in the style of play imposed by Diego Simeone as he begins a new chapter at Atletico Madrid in his career. Experience under Guardiola will give him a real chance of making an impacts at the Spanish club.
Though Manchester City is going to miss Alvarez’s energy and what he brings to the table, the focus of the club is now on building the squad for the new season.
