Born on 12 July 2003 to Turid Gunnes and Abdou Bobb a Gambian in Norway, Oscar is of partial gambian and Norwegian descent. He and his sister Tasen were raised in Oslo by both parents. Although they later divorced in 2010 both parents continued to take active roles in their children’s lives.

His parents, having recognized his talent at an early stage, had him enrolled at Lyn, a local football club with a reputation of nurturing young talents.

He currently plays for Manchester City.

Career Timeline

Bobb’s career suffered some opposition  at his early stage. Born in Oslo he played for Lyn at the youth level and began linking with the Portuguese club Porto in 2013 after an outstanding performance at a youth tournament in Algarve. It’s believed Porto thereafter reached out to Bobb’s mother, Turid Gunnes to convince the young star to sign with them having paid for the mother and child’s visit to the club in Porto.

In October 2015, Gunnes moved to Portugal on her own and signed documentation on November of the same year for Bobb to be enrolled in the Portuguese Football Federation. This documentation however, faced rejection from FIFA in January 2016 and the duo remained in Porto until January 2017 when he attempted to sign with Escola De Futebol Hernani Goncalves. FIFA, unconvinced that Gunnes, Bobb’s mother had moved to Portugal on her own in pursuit of her career nor that the Escola de Futebol Hernani Goncalves were independent from Porto refused Bobb an international transfer certificate.

The case subsequently reached the Court of Arbitration of Sport which ended in favor of FIFA and led to his return to Norway where he signed for Valerenga, an Oslo-based club.

Bobb Joined Premier League Side Manchester City in July 2019 and was named the best young talent at Manchester City of his age group by the English Newspaper. Bobb  gradually gained his position in Manchester City’s U-23 and was named on the Manchester City bench in an FA cup third round tie against Swindon Town on & January, 2022 although he didn’t feature.

He finally gained his Premier League debut when he  was substituted for Phil Foden in the 88th minute, a match against Fulham on 2 September 2023 and went on to make his Championship debut against Red Star Belgrade replacing Phil Foden again in the 83rd minute in a 3 -1 win. He went on to score his first Champions league goal in December 2023 and his first Premier League goal in January 2024.

Oscar Bobb Manchester City Contract

In July 2021, Oscar Bobb signed his first pro contract with Manchester City, a three-year deal. After impressing the club with his rapid progress, Bobb’s contract was extended by two years in May 2022, keeping him at the club until 2027. Being Partial Gambian and Norwegian Bobb was eligible to represent either side at the international level however, he chose Norway.
