Paris Saint-Germain is now out of the race to sign Newcastle United’s Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to Ben Jacobs.
This puts Manchester City as the favorites to sign him as Arsenal have refused to pay his £100 million release fee. Guimaraes, 26, has proved his worth since signing for the club last year from Sporting Lisbon. Manchester City are understood to be considering the activation of a release clause in his contract, but any action has to be taken before June 24th when the clause becomes invalid.
Newcastle for their part are said to be unwilling to let go of the player, and Guimaraes himself does not appear to mind being stuck at the club. Nevertheless, City are seeking to improve their midfield especially considering the likelihood of Kalvin Phillips’ departure.

Rodri is Manchester City current starting defensive midfielder, an important player, but he has been showing signs of fatigue at times. Since Guimaraes can also operate as a central midfielder and offer attacks, he could be a perfect fit for Pep Guardiola’s team.
